We have been teaching through the seven “I am…” statements of Jesus in the Gospel of John with the youth group at our Church on Sunday evenings. Jesus speaks these words in John 10:11: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”

The beauty of this truth is that Jesus doesn’t lead from behind. He goes first. A shepherd walks ahead of the flock into danger, into uncertainty, into the unknown so that the sheep can follow in safety. August often feels like a “transition month” because summer is winding down, routines are shifting, new seasons are beginning. In every transition, Jesus is already ahead of you. He has stepped into your tomorrow before you arrive there.

He, also, doesn’t just guide you; He guards you. The cross is the ultimate proof that His care is not passive but sacrificial. You are led by Someone who has already given everything for you. So, as you step into this month, you can move with confidence not because the path is predictable, but because the Shepherd is good.

May August be a month of following closely, trusting deeply, and resting securely in the One who goes before you and laid down His life for you.
