The ocean water washing up on a sandy beach

The story is told that one day Augustine was walking along the seashore when he saw a little boy digging a trench in the sand. When asked why he was doing this, the boy replied, “I’m going to empty the sea into my trench.” As Augustine walked on, he thought about the little boy’s task. “Sometimes we are like that,” he thought. “We propose to encompass the infinitude of God in the small limits of our mind.”

How big is God to you today? Have you been trying to “empty the sea” (God’s greatness) into your little trench? If so, you need to ask God to give you a fresh look at His awesome

majesty! Ask Him to help you reject your small and limiting human thoughts of God. See Him as the Bible declares Him—full of majesty, power and great glory. When you see God like this, you can’t help but respect Him. You can’t help but worship and praise Him. You can’t help but love and thank Him. You can’t help but serve Him with all your heart.
