a path leading through a dense, green forest

My youngest son and I are involved in our local Trail Life Troop, and we have been for quite a long time. A few years ago, our Troop was asked to help with a service project for the Christian School that our Troop is chartered through. We were asked to do a couple of miles worth of trail clearing to help prepare a path for a course for their Cross-Country team. There were overgrown limbs, downed trees, rocks, mud, etc. It would have been a very daunting task for anyone to do alone. But when a few people with gloves and tools worked together, the weight of the work was spread out. What would be overwhelming for one becomes simple for many. In Galatians 6:2 Paul says,

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

Maybe today, as we navigate our own stretch of the trail (work pressures, family needs, quiet anxieties, etc.) we can notice others who are walking under a load. A gentle word, a shared prayer, a small act of help might be the support that helps share the weight of that load. And in working together, we reflect Jesus Christ who carried our heaviest burden long before we ever knew how much we needed Him.
